    It was early on the next to last day we were in Havana and I was up and at 'em early. Just looking for interesting things when I found myself on the Malecon. I noticed this young fellow walking up on crutches as he had lost a leg and was missing a lot of teeth for his age.

    I have been intrigued by this pier on the coast. Everything on the end looks good. Of course the end of the pier is where the fish are but how are we going to get there? Isn't that what we all seem to think? We all want to go to the end of the pier.

    Did you ever feel like you might be a little different than those around you. Somehow you just didn't fit in? That hits me from time to time. When I was taking photos of these Moon jellyfish along comes this bad little jellyfish, whose name I do not know, just scooting along like it knew where it was heading.

    I know I said I wouldn't inundate you with these emails but I received so many emails about the last "Words of Encouragement" that I thought you might be interested in the different slants on this that were emailed to me. Some of these are kind of in the same mode that I was thinking but then there are some ideas that I never had an inkling about that might give someone a helpful idea.

    When we were at the Rip Van Winkle Gardens in southern Louisiana we came across several water gardens with all kinds of water lilly. But hidden in all of the lilly there was one real standout; a lotus plant with one bloom. If you have never seen one, they are a sight to behold.

    I am a strong believer in walking as a good exercise and I have several routes that I take through the neighborhood just about every day. During the fall there are a lot of different oak trees along the way that were producing really pretty cool acorns. Some Bur oaks and some oaks that I wasn't familiar with but I liked the acorns that they produced so when I would see one in good shape I picked them up...

    I try to take a walk every day and along my route I noticed that a new family to the neighborhood has put five red chairs in their front yard. And every time I come into that view my eyes are drawn to it. Well if my eyes are drawn to it I start to wonder about it. That is just the way my brain is wired.

    Some years back my daughter, Mary Kathryn, attended an Outward Bound course out of Rockland, Maine. This is not an exercise for the faint of heart. The older I become and have experienced the many hurdles that life seems to put in your path, the more I appreciate her journey and what she has accomplished; some things that I would not even remotely attempt.
